Gavin Newsom for US President 2028? California governor finally announces White House bid

California governor Gavin Newsom on Sunday confirmed he is considering a run for the US presidency in 2028. In an interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, Newsom admitted that he would be “lying” if he denied contemplating a White House bid. “I’d just be lying. And I’m not — I can’t do that,” he said. However, he provided a vague answer, stating that any decision is still years away, saying, “Fate will determine that.”The Blue state leader is term-limited and cannot seek re-election as governor. He has been active in national politics and has visited key early primary states, launched a podcast to hone his debate skills, and engaged in social media interactions that often target Republican figures. These actions have fueled speculation about his potential candidacy.Despite earlier backing President Joe Biden in the 2024 election, Newsom’s recent activities suggest a shift towards preparing for a national campaign. He and US President Donald Trump consistently go toe to toe against each other on their social media accounts.

His leadership during the Covid-19 pandemic was marked by decisive actions to mitigate the virus’s spread, though some of his decisions faced criticism and legal challenges by MAGA activists.
