Arshad Warsi calls ‘Saiyaara’ a ‘regular love story’

Arshad Warsi feels Bollywood is NOT taking risks; says ‘regular love story’ like ‘Saiyaara’ worked because it took a chance

Bollywood is playing it safe, according to Arshad Warsi, who believes a lack of strong scripts is hindering risk-taking. He noted that while superhero films are common, simple love stories can succeed when filmmakers dare to be different. Warsi emphasized that truly impactful scripts are rare, leading to fewer commercial hits despite numerous productions. Read on to know more.

Arshad Warsi recently spoke about the state of Hindi cinema in contemporary times. The actor expressed that Bollywood has become cautious when it comes to making movies and highlighted the lack of strong scripts as a major reason behind this trend.

Arshad Warsi says Bollywood has stopped taking risks

In an interview with India Today, Arshad Warsi said, “I feel we don’t take chances anymore. We just don’t. Especially in Hindi cinema—we try to play it as safe as possible.”He added that there is currently a trend of making superhero-style films, but noted that a movie like Saiyaara succeeded at the box office despite being a simple love story. “It was just a regular love story, but it worked because they took a chance. No one expected that. Two new actors, a simple love story—and yet, it connected,” he said.

Arshad Warsi on good film scripts

Warsi also pointed out that while many films are being made, only a few manage to perform well commercially. “The math is clear,” he said.Referring to his iconic role as Circuit in the Munna Bhai series, he added, “If we were really coming out with great scripts, we’d have so many hits. Unfortunately, we don’t.” He stressed that hits are rare and filmmakers are still searching for strong, impactful scripts.
