Justin Trudeau would ‘never date a civilian,’ say sources as ex-Canadian PM’s intimate photos with Katy Perry go viral

Justin Trudeau would 'never date a civilian,' say sources as ex-Canadian PM’s intimate photos with Katy Perry go viral

Jimmy Kimmel joked that Trudeau is taking the revenge of US tariffs by dating Katy Perry

Justin Trudeau’s romance with pop star Katy Perry continues to confuse people, as sources close to the former Canadian Prime Minister say his new relationship is “no surprise” and a reflection of his lifelong attraction to fame and the spotlight, much like his father, Pierre Trudeau, who also famously dated Barbra Streisand. The 53-year-old Trudeau was photographed hugging and kissing the 40-year-old American singer aboard a yacht near Santa Barbara, dressed casually in jeans while Perry donned in a swimsuit. The images, were shared by the Daily Mail earlier this month and went quickly viral. Netizens also did not tule out the possibility that the political leader was going through a “midlife crisis,” according to Sources cited by Page Six. “Dating Katy may just be Justin’s answer to going to Burning Man,” a Canadian society insider told Page Six. “It’s a bit of a midlife crisis.”The former prime minister resigned in January after nearly a decade in office, just over a year after his 18-year marriage to Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau ended. “He’s free from the ties of office and his marriage,” the source said. Another friend described the phase as “a big exhale” for Trudeau after spending much of his 40s “straitjacketed with his duties.” Canadian columnist Shinan Govani, who has followed Trudeau for years, told Page Six, “Nobody who knows Justin, or who has followed him for years, ever thought he would just date a ‘civilian’ after being PM. He is inextricably wedded to the spotlight … and is used to mixing with a creamy set.” Govani added, “He was pummeled so much here in Canada — unfairly, often — that I think he really does not care what people say about him.”Sources close to Perry said the singer, who split from Orlando Bloom earlier this year, was looking to “have some fun” after a difficult few months that included public backlash over her quick trip to space. The pair were first spotted dining together in Montreal in July before Trudeau attended her concert with his teenage daughter. Onlookers later reported seeing Perry join Trudeau in Nova Scotia as he viewed a property, though her representatives denied this. Those close to the former couple say Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau is “bemused” by the photos of her ex-husband’s new romance. She recently posted a message on Instagram saying, “Nothing we love is meant to be kept forever. People, places, moments — they’re all meant to be lived, not possessed.”One insider claimed there was a reason behind the chemistry: “Justin is fascinated by her. And she’s likely drawn to him being famous but removed from the industry.” For Trudeau, the source added, “It’s in his DNA to do this.”
