From Trudeau to Starmer: World leaders light up Diwali with warm wishes

As the festival of lights illuminates homes and hearts across the world, several global leaders took a moment to extend their Diwali greetings. From Australia to Canada, Singapore to the United Arab Emirates, these messages celebrated the triumph of light over darkness, hope over despair, and good over evil.

Here are some of the world leaders sending their Diwali wishes

1) Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese conveyed his Diwali greetings in a video message, stating: “I wish everyone a very happy Diwali. As you gather to celebrate the great festival of lights, may this special time uplift you with hope for a bright future. May it be an absolutely wonderful celebration.”The Australian High Commission in India also hosted a lively Diwali celebration, describing it as “a celebration to remember.”2) New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon shared his greetings on the occasion:”Happy Diwali, everyone. As families and friends come together all across New Zealand to celebrate the festival of lights, I want to take a moment to acknowledge what this time represents. It is about the triumph of light over darkness, hope over despair, and good over evil.”3) Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong extended his greetings through a video post on X:“Light over darkness. Hope over fear. As we count down to Deepavali, we celebrate not just the lights that fill our homes, but the meaning they carry in our hearts. Wishing everyone a bright and meaningful Festival of Lights ahead.”4) Dubai’s ruler and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, conveyed heartfelt wishes:“Warmest wishes and greetings to those celebrating Diwali in the UAE and around the world. May this festival of lights bring peace, safety, and prosperity to you and your loved ones. Happy Diwali!”5) UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer extended festive greetings on the occasion of Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas. He wished Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs across Britain a joyful and peaceful Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas. Recalling his visit to India, Starmer stated that he lit a diya in Mumbai as a symbol of devotion, joy, and renewed bonds.6) Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak celebrated Deepawali along with his wife Akshata Murty and their daughters at 10 Downing Street in London. He shared pictures of the celebration where the family can be seen lighting diyas (lamps). 7) Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau extended Diwali greetings, emphasizing the importance of the Indo-Canadian community. He highlighted their contributions to various fields and explained the significance of Diwali as a celebration of good over evil. Trudeau conveyed his hopes for joy, happiness, and prosperity during the Festival of Lights.8) The UK Royals also extended their greetings: “Wishing a very happy Diwali to everyone celebrating the Festival of Lights in the UK and around the world,” reads a message from Buckingham Palace, shared across all its social media platforms.
