Vaani Kapoor appreciates a quiet Diwali

Vaani Kapoor appreciates quiet Diwali; says the festival feels special with 'calmer energy'

As the chaotic market gets filled with sweets and gifts, and the film industry celebrates the festive season with parties, Vaani Kapoor looks forward to having a quiet Diwali this year. With her close ones on the lists and home-cooked food, the actress doesn’t feel the compulsion to follow the social calendar. For her, the festival is all about mindful celebration, while keeping it warm with diyas, sweets, and happiness.

Vaani Kapoor recalls the Delhi chaos

While Kapoor chooses to celebrate the peaceful Diwali, she strikingly remembers the chaotic ones of Delhi from her childhood. “I remember the chaos clearly, cousins everywhere, diyas half-lit, someone burning the chakri too close to their feet,” Vaani said in an interview with Hindustan Times, adding that the Delhi Diwalis were colorful with dances and social gatherings. Recalling the rituals turned chaos, the ‘Befikre’ actress expressed that the pooja ceremonies would soon turn into a mini roast, while someone is complaining about the sweets and the other is searching for the matchbox. Lending a hand in the home decor, she said, “It’s diyas everywhere, fresh flowers, and delectable food,” mentioning that when the work kept her away, she ensures to at least FaceTime.

Vaani Kapoor prefers a quiet Diwali

While many indulge in buying new things, Kapoor believes that it’s better when calmer. “I think Diwali feels more special when it’s less about new things and more about lighter, calmer energy and being around people who you love,” the 37-year-old said. As for the sweets, the Punjabi actress has Gujiyas and Motichoor Ladoos topping her list. Kapoor may not know how to cook, but her contribution to Diwali usually revolves around lighting diyas. “I live alone, so I don’t really cook an elaborate Diwali meal, but I do try to make something that feels nostalgic; it’s my way of bringing a bit of home to wherever I am,” she said, adding that food brings a lot more comfort and love than any firecracker could.
