'Festival of 3rd world immigrants': Canadian engineer outraged on receiving 'Happy Diwali' email

Canadian man gets angry after receiving ‘Happy Diwali’ message from Netflix.

A Canadian man’s outburst on receiving an email wishing him on the occasion of Diwali went viral on social media as he did not mince his words to abuse Indians and got equally trolled for his meltdown. Diwali is a Hindu festival which has become popular in other countries too because of the sizable diaspora population. Canadian PM Mark Carney Friday attended a Diwali function in the Greater Toronto Area and said that the triumph of light over darkness is at the heart of Diwali. Marty Belanger, a professional engineer from Alberta, however, does not like Diwali. He made it clear that he was upset after receiving an email from Netflix. Belanger was surprised that even after collecting all his personal data, the service providers and vendors do not know that he does not celebrate Diwali.Read: ‘Imagine being triggered by…’: Row over ‘Diwali-themed’ chocolate in Canada store”You already know everything about me from all my personal information that you keep collecting. Let me repeat some of it. I’m a middle aged white guy from Alberta, who like war movies, science fiction, and real crime documentaries. Stop sending me sh** like this,” Marty wrote. “I don’t give a f** about a festival celebrated by 3rd world immigrants invading my country,” Marty wrote. The comment section was a mixed bag with many Canadians ruing the fact that they never got a similar email from companies on Christmas. Some pointed out that he was easily triggered by an email while he could have easily ignored it. He was also called a homeless, white trash for his Diwali meltdown. A few days ago, a photo of Diwali-themed chocolate being sold in a Canadian store was at the center of an X feud. Diwali dominated Canada news this year, with the Mississauga city council moving to ban Diwali fireworks. On October 15, the council decided they won’t ban fireworks but will impose stricter rules aimed at reducing noise, injuries and property damage. The new regulations include shorter hours for setting off fireworks (between 6 to 10 pm on all holidays, except New Year’s Eve which allows from 11 pm to 1 am), a ban on Roman candles, tighter sales windows, and a a requirement for licensed vendors to log inventory and sales data. Fireworks sales is now prohibited on the day of holidays in Mississauga to curb last-minute purchases.
