'Mrs JD Vance, he is calling you...': JD Vance's old comment on 'foreign servant' resurfaces, draws flak

JD Vance’s old comment calling foreign skills ‘foreign servants’ triggered a major row amid the ongoing H-1B controversy.

An old comment of vice president JD Vance on foreign skills has resurfaced and gone viral, triggering a massive row as the Donald Trump administration has put in place several measures for the sake of ‘America First’. In the clip, which is from an interview in June, JD Vance said America does not need to import a foreign class of servants to remain competitive. “We did it in the ’50s and ’60s,” he said. “We put a man on the moon with American talent. Some German and Jewish scientists who had come over during World War II, but mostly by American citizens who built the incredible space programme,” he said. “This idea that American citizens don’t have the talent to do great things, that you have to import a foreign class of servants and… professors to do these things. I just reject that,” Vance said. Social media users reminded Vance that he’s married to a person of Indian origin, whom he called ‘foreign servants’. One posted the photo of JD Vance’s extended family and wrote: “But you needed a servant class to build a family”. “Hello Mrs JD Vance, he is calling u servant,” one wrote, referring to Usha Vance’s foreign origin. “US Vice President JD Vance just called his immigrant wife Usha as belonging to the “servant class.” The lily white Republican Party clearly doesn’t care for the non White vote,” another wrote. Former Biden adviser Ajay Bhutoria condemned Vance’s remarks and said it was blatantly racist and divisive. “Immigrants are educators, healthcare professionals, innovators, and entrepreneurs,” he said, noting that leaders of global companies such as Google, Microsoft, and Adobe are themselves immigrants. “Their work drives progress and strengthens the very fabric of our nation.”
