Daddy Yankee films Korean-shot music video for his comeback album 'Lamento en Baile'

Daddy Yankee

Latin music icon Daddy Yankee has made a powerful comeback with the release of his 8th studio album, ‘Lamento en Baile.’ The label announced on the 17th that the album features 19 tracks, including the energetic lead single ‘El Torque.’ According to MK Sports, the record captures the artist’s emotional yet rhythmic journey, marking his first full-length release in nearly three years.

Energy born from hardship

‘Lamento en Baile,’ which translates to “Sorrow into Dance,” expresses the paradoxical beauty of turning pain into movement and joy. During the album’s creation, Daddy Yankee faced one of the toughest periods of his life, yet chose to infuse every beat with positivity and vitality. “Even in life’s hardest moments, music brings healing and celebration,” the artist shared. “I poured my heart into every track and hope fans dance and feel this journey with me.”

A global connection with Korea

The music video for ‘El Torque,’ filmed in South Korea, adds another layer of intrigue. Set against the vivid backdrop of traditional palace architecture, the video combines rhythmic rap with Korean cultural imagery, highlighting Daddy Yankee’s evolving artistic direction and global approach to reggaeton.

Legacy and comeback

Debuting in 1995, Daddy Yankee rose to international fame with the 2004 global hit ‘Gasolina,’ which helped spark the worldwide reggaeton movement. He became a household name again in 2017 through the megahit ‘Despacito’ with Luis Fonsi, which dominated the Billboard Hot 100 for 16 consecutive weeks. After announcing his retirement in 2023, the star surprised fans by joining HYBE Latin America in July, officially reigniting his career.
