Following Zubeen Garg's demise, Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival postpones event as a tribute to late singer

The whole nation is still mourning the loss of singer Zubeen Garg, and everyone is doing their bit to pay their respects and tribute to the late artist. In the wake of his demise, the 10th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival (BVFF) has been postponed to 2026.

Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival gets postponed

The 10th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival was initially scheduled to take place from December 4 to 7, 2025. However, to honor the late artists and in the wake of the massive loss faced by Assam’s cultural society, the organizers decided to push the envelope. The organizers announced the postponement through a social media post.

“It is with a heavy heart that the 10th edition of the Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival, originally scheduled for December 4–7, 2025, has been postponed to a later date in 2026. This decision comes as Assam mourns the loss of its most beloved cultural icon, Zubeen Garg, whose voice and vision defined generations,” read the post before adding, “BVFF stands in solidarity with the people and the creative community.” The organizers also thanked everyone for understanding their decision and assured that the refund would be initiated for those who had pre-booked. “As a festival deeply rooted in the cultural and emotional fabric of this land, we feel it is only right to pause our celebrations this year, in remembrance and respect. We are deeply grateful to our filmmakers, partners, and audience for their continued support and understanding. Refunds for all submissions will be processed in due course,” the post concluded.

Zubeen Garg’s death investigation

Zubeen Garg passed away at the age of 52, on September 19, 2025, in Singapore. Initial reports claimed a scuba diving accident as the reason for death, but later investigations revealed that he had drowned in water.Reports state that on Wednesday, five accused in the case of Zubeen’s death investigation were sent to 14-day judicial custody. These include the Northeast Festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen’s manager Siddhartha Sharma, and his cousin and police officer Sandipan Garg. Zubeen’s two personal security officers, Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya, were also among those five. Go to Source
