Dude witnessed over 100 % jump in USA advance sales

On the back of his success he is now looking at expanding his horizon as he’s releasing Dude on the occasion of Diwali. The advance booking for the film is yet to open in India but the doors have been opened in the United States of America. The US markets traditionally prefer Hindi and Telugu films.but as per early numbers coming in Dude has grossed USD 59,069 from 263 locations, across 578 shows and selling about 4000 tickets- showing more than 100 % jump in it’s collection.

Till Tuesday morning the film had minted USD 27,323 from 104 locations, across 299 shows, selling approximately 1,861 tickets. With 2 more days to go for the premiere show to roll out one can expect the film to breach USD 100K mark. The breakeven point for the film has been pegged at USD 2.3 million which going by current collection is looking like a tall order.

In the recent past only two Tamil superstars have managed to take huge openings at the US markets, one being Rajnikanth- his last release Coolie nearly minted USD 7 million in the North American markets. The other superstar is Thalapathy Vijay- he’s gearing up for his last and final film Jana Nayagan releasing next year with Bobby Deol and Pooja Hegde. So going by past history, Dude’s collection appears modest at first glance but the performance is impressive for a Tamil comedy without major action or mass elements ; a genre that typically draw larger overseas audiences.

At one point Pradeep’s other film Love Insurance Kompany with Krithi Shetty, SJ Suryah, directed by Vignesh Shivan was also eyeing the Diwali release but it ultimately made way for Dude.
