US President Donald Trump and regional leaders signed a landmark Gaza peace deal on Monday during a summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, hailing the moment as a historic step toward regional stability. Speaking at the event, Trump called it a “very important signing” and praised the efforts of his team and participating countries. “I thought this was probably going to be the toughest, and maybe in many ways it was, but we had a lot of big talent,” he said, as per CNN.The summit, co-chaired by Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, included world leaders such as French President Emmanuel Macron, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Jordan’s King Abdullah, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, European Council President Antonio Costa and Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.Trump described the gathering as “probably the greatest assemblage of countries in terms of wealth and power maybe ever assembled, and it’s just an honour to be a part of it”. While signing the agreement to music echoing through the room, he added, “This took 3,000 years to get to this point. Can you believe it? It is going to hold up”. The document, which Trump described as spelling out “a lot of rules and regulations and lots of other things, and it’s very comprehensive,” is intended to formalise frameworks for ceasefire implementation, humanitarian assistance, and longer-term peace talks between Israel and Palestinian authorities. After signing of the deal, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said they will award US President Donald Trump “the order of the Nile, the highest state honour among the Egyptian decorations.”Earlier, President El-Sisi had praised Trump’s role in brokering the deal, saying, “Your excellency is the only one capable of bringing this about and bringing an end to this war. You are the only one who is able to bring about peace and achieve peace in this part of the world. Thank you, Mr President!!”.Trump described the day as “tremendous for the world, tremendous for the Middle East,” underscoring the significance of the agreement as more than two dozen nations worked together to support a ceasefire and humanitarian relief in Gaza.
