Sunjay Kapur’s will has ‘glaring’ errors? Karisma Kapoor’s daughter’s address is wrong and son’s name is misspelt

Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, are currently fighting a legal battle against their late father Sunjay Kapur’s purported will in the Delhi High Court. On Monday, the siblings claimed that the document, reportedly listing assets worth Rs 30,000 crore, contained “glaring errors” and could not have been prepared by him.As reported by PTI, their counsel made the submission before Justice Jyoti Singh while hearing their plea challenging the will. “He had a very good relationship with his children. How can he have written his daughter’s address wrong and misspelt his son’s name in multiple places in the will,” the counsel said.

Errors in Sunjay Kapur’s will seen as highly suspicious

The legal team described the will as having “bloopers” and being “very uncharacteristic” of Sunjay Kapur. “It is so casual. There are glaring errors in this will. This is not a will which Sunjay Kapur had prepared, read or made,” the counsel added. They highlighted the unusual mistakes, such as misspelt names and incorrect addresses, which raised doubts over the document’s validity.

Priya Kapur accused of forgery

The counsel also pointed out that there was no evidence of anyone preparing the will except the children’s stepmother, Priya Kapur, and others. “If this will is a forgery, then only one person could have forged it,” the counsel said. The children had earlier accused Priya of being “greedy” and called her a “Cinderella stepmother” during the October 9 hearing. The term refers to the fairy tale where a young woman is mistreated by her stepmother, who favours her own daughters.

Court had allowed sealed asset list filing

On September 26, the Delhi High Court allowed Priya Kapur to submit a list of Sunjay Kapur’s assets in a sealed cover. The court also suggested that parties involved in the dispute should not share details with the media.According to the children’s counsel, Priya had received 60 per cent of the assets and approximately 12 per cent went to her son. “She is also getting 75 per cent of the trust,” he claimed.

Probe requested into alleged will forgery

The counsel told the court there was “enough evidence” to conduct a probe into the will. He accused Priya Kapur of forgery and asked the court to maintain the status quo on Sunjay Kapur’s assets. “She is a nominee, and she holds the assets. How far the forgery of documents goes will have to be unravelled, and there is enough evidence to conduct a probe,” he added. He further accused Priya of being in a “glaring hurry” to restrict the children’s shares. “This is a Cinderella stepmother,” he said.

Questions raised over legal procedure followed

The counsel questioned the authenticity of the will, saying Sunjay Kapur did not consult a lawyer while making it. He argued that it was “not possible that he would not have consulted an advocate before creating a will and bequeathing such a large estate.”He also mentioned that the executor of the will received it just one day before its reading. The counsel claimed the will had been modified when Sunjay Kapur was on holiday with his son and that the person who forged the document had been rewarded.

About Sunjay Kapur’s demise

Sunjay Kapur, aged 53, passed away on June 12, 2025, after suffering a heart attack while playing polo in the United Kingdom.Disclaimer: The information in this report is based on a legal hearing as reported by a third-party source.
