Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, VinFast, has become the first car brand in India to surpass one lakh domestic vehicle sales within the first three quarters of a year, even as it accelerates its expansion in the country, according to IANS.

According to the report, the company sold 13,914 EVs in September 2025, taking its total sales for the year to 1,03,884 units, the highest-ever figure recorded in its history. The milestone comes after 11 consecutive months as Vietnam’s best-selling carmaker, the company said in a statement.

In India, VinFast is betting big on the growing EV market with its recently inaugurated assembly plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, marking the start of a phased investment of up to ₹16,000 crore. In its initial phase, the facility can assemble 50,000 units annually of its two premium electric SUVs — the VF 6 and VF 7.

“With three peak months of the fourth quarter ahead and increased production at our Hai Phong and Ha Tinh complexes, we are poised to set even more remarkable records by year-end,” said Duong Thi Thu Trang, Global Deputy CEO of Sales and Marketing at VinFast.

The VF 3, dubbed Vietnam’s “national electric car”, led sales with 31,386 units in the first three quarters, followed by the VF 5 with 30,956 units, including 8,604 fleet-oriented Herio Green variants. The VF 6 ranked third with 14,425 units, while the Limo Green, a seven-seater MPV for ride-hailing and premium transport, gained traction with 2,120 deliveries in September.
