‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ mints Rs 251.20 crore in 80 days

The journey of the re-imagined version of Bhakt Prahlad and Hiranyaskhay’s story has been marked with resilience. The film started it’s journey at the ticket window in a slow manner but with each passing day the word of mouth for the film grew and today it is the biggest animation film of India. It also withstood competition from films like Mohit Suri, Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda’s Saiyaata, Rajinikanth’s Coolie and Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani’s War 2. Even now as Rishabh Shetty’s Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 is ruling the box office across languages- the Hindi version of Mahavatar Narsimha brought in Rs 2 lakh on Sunday-it’s 80th day.

The significant run of Mahavatar Narsimha has also made it possible for the film to enter the Top 50 list of biggest Hindi films of all time. The total Hindi collection of the films stands at Rs 188.15 crore, while the Kannada version at Rs 10.2 crore, Telugu at Rs 49.31 crore, Tamil at Rs 2.98 crore and Malayalam at Rs 56 lakh.

The achievement is all the more remarkable considering the genre. Animated films and especially based on Indian mythology in India have traditionally struggled to find mass acceptance, often dismissed as niche content. Mahavatar Narsimha, however, bucked the trend. By blending animation with a mythological narrative rooted in Indian culture, the film has appealed to both families and youngsters. Word of mouth has been particularly strong in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, where mythological storytelling retains a strong cultural pull.

Mahavatar Narimsha in part of 7 installment Mahavatar series; the other films in the pipeline are

Mahavatar Parshuram (2027)

Mahavatar Dwarkadheesh (2031)
