Late Sridevi’s family land row: Madras HC orders to take action

Late Sridevi's family land row: Petitioner alleges wrongful payout, Madras HC orders TN govt to take action

The Madras High Court has issued a key order in a case related to land acquired for the expansion of the East Coast Road from Thiruvanmiyur to Akkarai. The case involves late actress Sridevi’s husband, Boney Kapoor, and daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. Justice Krishnan Ramasamy has ordered the Tamil Nadu government to consider the petitioner’s complaint within 4 weeks. According to the petitioner’s allegations, compensation for land belonging to their family was illegally given to another family.

Petitioner alleges ₹1.87 crore compensation wrongly given to Sridevi’s family

According to Nakkheeran, this case was heard based on a petition filed by Sivagami of Puluthivakkam. Her petition states that the land, measuring 1,420 square feet, belongs to his grandfather and that the land was acquired by the State Highways Department for a road project. However, she alleged that the compensation amount of Rs. 1.87 crore was paid to late actress Sridevi’s husband, Boney Kapoor, and daughters, Janhvi and Khushi, with whom she had no connection.

Court order raises fresh questions on ECR land acquisition.

In his petition, the petitioner pointed out that she had filed a complaint on July 26, 2024, and that the state government had not yet properly considered it. She also demanded that the Tamil Nadu government be ordered to withdraw the wrongly paid compensation and pay it to their family. Hearing the petition, Judge Krishnan Ramasamy ordered the Tamil Nadu government to take appropriate action and decide on the petitioner’s request within 4 weeks. The court’s recent order in this case has once again raised questions about the procedures for providing compensation in road expansion projects. At the same time, this order reveals the increasing number of cases where victims are seeking justice for their rights.
