In a fascinating turn of events, Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ showcased an innovative production technique by moving 90% of its editing and music recording back to his ancestral village, Kundapura. This bold venture effectively transformed the locale into a lively ‘film village,’ contributing to the film’s phenomenal success as it surpassed the ₹300 crore mark globally.

Rishab Shetty has been garnering massive praise for his recent release, ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’. The film talks about the Bhuta Kola ritual that is prevalent in the coastal Karnataka region. Amidst the buzz around the film, Rishab shared that the major part of the already blockbuster film has been edited in his native village. Let’s learn more about it.

Rishab Shetty reveals ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ was edited in his village

In an interview with India Today, Rishab Shetty opened up about the making of the movie. He shared, “Even 90 percent of the post-production work was done there (his native village).”The actor-director added that his team visited Bengaluru and Kochi just “to finalize things.” Not just that, Shetty revealed that they brought the music director to his village and set up a recording studio for him. He said, “Around 90 percent of the film’s editing was also done in the village.”In the same interview, the actor stated that the villagers were fully prepared for the same, “especially those of my hometown, Kundapura.” Rishab added that his native place has now turned into a “kind of film town or film village.” The filmmaker went on to reveal that, during the shoot, every day at least 100 vehicles were involved, as almost 1000 people were on set daily. Directed by Rishab Shetty, who also stars as the lead, the film was released in theaters on October 2, 2025. It also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah in pivotal roles. For the unversed, the movie is a prequel to Rishab’s 2022 hit ‘Kantara’. At the box office, the film opened to a massive Rs 61.85 crore. As of now, according to the Sacnilk report, the movie has collected Rs 282.43 crore in India. The Rishab Shetty directorial has crossed the Rs 300 crore mark at the global box office.
