‘Kantara Chapter 1’ makers urge fans not to imitate ‘Daiva’

‘Kantara Chapter 1’: Makers issue statement requesting fans not to imitate ‘Daiva’ characters

Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ has been creating a buzz right from the word go. The first part was a huge success, and this prequel is turning out to be a bigger hit. In addition to the box office success, the film has been getting rave reviews from the audience, and the theatres are seeing massive celebrations during the screening. Another thing that has recently caught attention is that a lot of fans were seen dressed as ‘Daiva’ in and outside of theatres. The videos of people in ‘Daiva’ costumes and performing on Kantara music have been going viral. And these performances have left the internet divided, as some are appreciating the sentiment, while others find it disrespectful. Amid all this, the makers of ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ have shared an official statement on the matter, urging fans to stop dressing up like ‘Daiva’ characters and imitating them.Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 Movie Review

Statement by ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ makers after fans imitate ‘Diava’ characters

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the makers of ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ shared that both this movie and its first installment were made with the intention of respectfully portraying and celebrating the glory of ‘Daivas.’ They mentioned they are grateful for the overwhelming response, the love, and the warmth. The subject that their film deals with is very sensitive and has been made considering people’s faith and beliefs. Thus, they appealed to people not to use the characters for the sake of performance or mimicry. “To the cinephiles and the global audience, Dhaivaradhane stands as a profound symbol of faith and cultural pride within Tulunadu, the coastal region of Karnataka. Our films, Kantara and Kantara Chapter-1, were created with the purpose of respectfully portraying this devotion and celebrating the glory of the Daivas. We have strived tirelessly to ensure that the profound respect and unwavering devotion central to Dhaivaradhane were honoured, successfully spreading the significance and heritage of the Tulu soil with the world,” Hombale Films mentioned. They continued, “We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming positive response. However, we have observed that certain individuals have been imitating the Daiva characters from the movie and engaging in inappropriate behaviour in public spaces and gatherings.””Dhaivaradhane or Daiva worship, as featured in our film, is rooted in deep spiritual tradition and is not intended for performance or casual mimicry. Such acts amount to trivialising our belief system and deeply hurt the religious sentiments and faith of the Tulu community. Hombale Films therefore makes a strong and sincere appeal to the public and audiences to refrain from any act that involves imitating, mimicking, or trivializing the Daiva personas—whether in cinema halls or in public places. The sacred nature of Dhaivaradhane must always be upheld. We urge all citizens to recognize the spiritual importance of these portrayals and act responsibly, ensuring that the devotion we sought to celebrate is never compromised or treated lightly. We appreciate your continued support and cooperation in preserving the sanctity of this invaluable cultural heritage,” concluded the makers.
