A 24-year-old woman in the UK, Georgia Taylor, passed away after doctors misdiagnosed her symptoms as allergies. Despite reporting rashes, swelling, and leg pain, her condition was not correctly identified.

Her health rapidly declined after a trip to Greece, leading to her death on August 21 in a hospital. She had completed the London Marathon in April without any known medical issues.

Her parents expressed their disbelief, stating, “Every morning we wake up and think, ‘how has this happened?'”

Taylor’s symptoms began in June with rashes on her fingers, which she attributed to her rings. By July, her face was swollen, her eyes were puffy, and a rash had spread to her arm. Her family doctor diagnosed it as an allergic reaction, prescribing antihistamines and hydrocortisone.

Despite the treatment, her condition worsened, leading her to the emergency room with breathing difficulties. Tests showed no abnormalities, and she was sent home with more antihistamines.

While on a family trip to Greece in early August, she experienced severe pain in her right calf, making it difficult to walk the next day. Although her facial swelling had reduced, her mobility had decreased, causing concern for her mother.

On August 20, Taylor visited a doctor around 6 pm. Shortly after, she sent a distressing message to her mother, indicating the need to go to the hospital. An ambulance took her to Cardiff’s University Hospital of Wales, where she died the next day. Her mother, Nicola, recounted the rapid progression of events, stating, “We got in there and it all happened really quickly.”
