India’s luxury armoured vehicle segment is growing at 15–20 per cent compound annual growth rate. This trend strongly reflects a shift in how security and safety are perceived, especially by the country’s elite. A reflection of this trend can be seen in JCBL Armouring Solutions’ latest move.

The leading armoured mobility brand has officially marked its foray into the luxury car armouring market, extending its expertise to high-end vehicles such as Mercedes, Range Rover, and Defender.

With this expansion, the company intends to provide top-notch security without compromising on functionality, comfort, or style. “Luxury should never come at the cost of safety,” said Rushank Doshi, CEO of JCBL Armouring Solutions, in response to a question concerning entering the luxury car armouring market.

He added that in India’s luxury car market, the firm is reinventing safe mobility.

“We are reinventing safe mobility by providing the best protection without sacrificing style, functionality, or craftsmanship. This demonstrates the JCBL Group’s dedication to quality, creativity, and top-notch engineering,” said Doshi.

Ballistic Protection

Typically, armoured vehicles have been used for defence missions and political convoys, but are now gaining popularity among high-net-worth individuals, celebrities, and business executives. Doshi attributed this shift to India’s changing socio-economic and security environment. “India is one of the fastest growing markets for armoured and bulletproof vehicles. The demand for safe mobility is further elevated by the ongoing internal security issues we face, which range from localised threats to state-level instability. Rising prosperity means more public figures and corporate leaders with heightened visibility. For them, security has become essential rather than optional,” he said.

To meet these expectations, JCBL has developed a new generation of lightweight, discreet armouring solutions. Each vehicle is designed to look and feel identical to its original version, yet offers superior ballistic protection.

“Our philosophy is simple: Safety should be invisible. When a client sits in their Range Rover or Mercedes, they should feel the same elegance and smooth driving dynamics as in a factory model. Every component we use is rigorously tested, and clients are even invited to witness live ballistic demonstrations. It builds both transparency and trust,” Doshi added.

Seamless Integration

At the heart of JCBL’s innovation lies its pioneering work in lightweight armouring. The company has moved beyond traditional ballistic steel to advanced materials. “We use composite panels, engineered materials, and Kevlar blankets that reduce vehicle weight without compromising ballistic standards,” said Doshi.

“It’s a balance of safety, performance, and luxury. For the premium segment, we have also integrated blast-resistant floors, acoustic insulation, and glass solutions that meet global VR standards — all while maintaining the vehicle’s original aesthetics,” he said.

Meeting Quality & International Standards

At the NFSU Ballistic Research and Testing Lab, each JCBL armoured vehicle is put through a rigorous testing process in accordance with VRDE, ICAT, and DRDO certifications. The company’s R&D centre complies with both national and international standards because it has been approved by DSIR and licensed under DIPP.

“Certifications are essential because clients require proof, not just assurances. Traceability, consistency, and adherence to international standards are guaranteed by our thorough testing. That is what distinguishes JCBL as a reliable brand in this extremely specialised sector,” he added.

Expanding the Armoured Mobility Ecosystem

In addition to manufacturing, JCBL provides a full range of post-purchase services, such as ongoing maintenance, upgrade plans, and specialised staff and driver training.

“Building an armoured car is only half the journey. We train clients and their teams on how to handle the vehicles in emergency scenarios, when to service them, and how to maintain their systems effectively. It’s a holistic approach to secure mobility,” said Doshi.

While JCBL has successfully armoured ICE and hybrid models, the company is also exploring EV armouring projects. Doshi acknowledged that electric vehicles pose unique challenges due to weight and power limitations. “Only select EV models are currently viable for armouring, but a few projects are already in advanced stages,” he added.

Shaping the Future of Secure Luxury Mobility

JCBL is positioned to play a critical role in determining the course of the rapidly growing luxury armoured vehicle market in India.

“While international players will undoubtedly enter the market, we see that as healthy competition. JCBL has always been a step ahead, whether in lightweight composites or luxury car armouring, thanks to decades of expertise, deep local understanding, and our strong compliance ecosystem,” said Doshi.

Looking to the future, Doshi envisions AI-driven threat detection, autonomous security systems, and smart armouring as the next frontier.

“We are moving from 14–15 mm ballistic steel to under 6 mm, and soon possibly to 4 mm,” he predicted.

Doshi said that as armour gets lighter, vehicles become faster and more efficient — without any compromise on safety.
