Ranbir Kapoor-Rajkumar Hirani’s next film delayed

Ranbir Kapoor-Rajkumar Hirani’s next film put on hold; director to begin Aamir Khan’s Dadasaheb Phalke biopic first

Ranbir Kapoor and director Rajkumar Hirani, who last worked together in the blockbuster biopic ‘Sanju’, were all set to reunite for another ambitious project. Reports had suggested that the duo would team up for a film based on the life of an athlete. However, the latest update suggests that the project has been pushed back to 2027, as Hirani is now planning to begin work on his next film, a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke featuring Aamir Khan.

Ranbir Kapoor and Rajkumar Hirani’s new project faces a delay

According to a Mid-Day report, “Hirani and Ranbir were very excited about this one; they had been jamming on it through the year. Hirani decided to park it. Ranbir’s calendar is packed, so it made sense to regroup later. Everyone wants it to be like Sanju, so they’re okay to wait.”

In the meantime, Hirani has decided to shift his attention to the biopic of Dadasaheb Phalke, the legendary pioneer of Indian cinema. The film will reportedly feature Aamir Khan in the lead role, and shooting is expected to begin in January 2026.According to the report, Aamir has already started his preparations for the film and is working on getting into the look of the character. The source revealed, “He’s growing out his look and will dive straight into workshops in December. This is the first time he’s playing a real-life pioneer of cinema, and Hirani wants to give it the grandeur it deserves.”

Ranbir Kapoor’s busy schedule delays reunion

Ranbir Kapoor’s packed schedule is another major reason for the delay in his collaboration with Rajkumar Hirani. The actor has multiple big projects lined up, starting with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-anticipated ‘Love and War’, followed by the second instalment of Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’.The report further mentioned, “Post that, depending on which script is ready, he will take a call between Dhoom 4 and Animal Park, as they are both in advanced development.” This confirms that Ranbir’s next few years are fully booked with back-to-back high-profile projects.

Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming films

On the professional front, Ranbir Kapoor was last seen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s action drama ‘Animal’. His performance received wide praise. Up next, the actor will be seen in ‘Ramayana: Part 1’, which stars Yash, Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, and others. He also has Bhansali’s ‘Love and War’ alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.
