Zubeen Garg’s demise probe: Police hand over second post-mortem to wife; Assam govt forms judicial commission

Zubeen Garg tragically passed away, and his sudden demise left the entire country in deep sorrow. Even though a post-mortem was first done in Singapore, the Assam government ordered a second post-mortem in Assam to ensure a complete examination of the circumstances surrounding his untimely demise.

Second post-mortem report handed to his wife

The Assam Police on Saturday handed over the second post-mortem report of singer Zubeen Garg to his wife, Garima Saikia Garg, at their residence in Kahilipara, Guwahati. The first post-mortem report, conducted in Singapore, had been given to her on Thursday.

“An officer from the SIT went to Garima’s house in Kahilipara area of Guwahati to hand over the (second) report,” a CID source told PTI.

Second post-mortem conducted at Guwahati hospital

As reported by PTI, the second post-mortem was done at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on September 23, 2025, before Garg was cremated later that day. After the post-mortem, the viscera sample was sent to the Central Forensic Laboratory (CFL) in Delhi for a detailed check.

Chief Minister confirmed report was handed to family

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that both the Singapore and GMCH post-mortem reports had been handed over to Garima Saikia Garg. “It is up to Garima whether she makes the post-mortem report public or not,” he added.

Special investigation team is probing the singer’s demise

A nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the CID is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Garg’s demise in Singapore. The Assam government has also set up a one-man judicial commission to independently examine the case.

Circumstances of singer’s demise were mysterious

Garg passed away under mysterious circumstances while swimming in Singapore. He had travelled to the Southeast Asian nation to attend the 4th edition of the NorthEast India Festival, organised by Shyamkanu Mahanta and his company.

Festival organiser and team members were arrested

In connection with the case, the festival organiser, Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma, and two band members, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahanta, have been arrested. All four were sent to 14 days of police remand.The investigation is ongoing, and the case has drawn widespread attention, with fans and well-wishers awaiting clarity on the circumstances surrounding the beloved singer’s untimely demise.
