What is hate map? Kash Patel cuts ties with Southern Poverty Law Center, says they are targeting Americans

Kash Patel announced FBI will cut all ties with Southern Poverty Law Center.

FBI director Kash Patel announced that FBI is severing all ties to the Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil rights watchdog, accusing them of turning partisan and spreading hate. “The Southern Poverty Law Center long ago abandoned civil rights work and turned into a partisan smear machine,” Patel wrote in a post on X. “Their so-called ‘hate map’ has been used to defame mainstream Americans and even inspired violence. That disgraceful record makes them unfit for any FBI partnership,” he said. The SPLC’s Hate Map is a non-exhaustive compilation of hate groups, tracking ideologies that are anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ, sexist, racist or bigoted against religions. The map lists Kirk’s Turning Point USA as “Antigovernmental General”. The move follows the FBI’s decision to end its partnership with the Anti-Defamation League.Elon Musk called SPLC an evil organization and accused it of incitement to murder Charlie Kirk. “For decades, we have shared data and analysis with the public to protect civil rights and hold extremists accountable,” the SPLC said in a statement. “We remain committed to exposing hate and extremism as we work to equip communities with knowledge and defend the rights and safety of marginalized people.”

SPLC's hate map listed Charlie Kirk's Turning Point as a hate organization.

What is SPLC?

Per their website, the SPLC is a catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond, working in partnership with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance the human rights of all people. Civil rights lawyers Morris Dees and Joseph Levin Jr. founded the SPLC in 1971 to ensure that the promise of the civil rights movement became a reality for all.

Charlie Kirk’s old post on SPLC

On May 26, Charlie Kirk wrote a scathing post on SPLC for listing his organization as a hate group. “The SPLC has added Turning Point to their ridiculous “hate group” list, right next to the KKK and neo-Nazis, a cheap smear from a washed-up org that’s been fleecing scared grandmas for decades. They somehow still rake in over $100 million a year peddling their “hate map” nonsense, sitting pretty in their Montgomery “Poverty Palace” while crying about “hate” to line their pockets. Even former staffers called their racket a ‘con’,” Charlie Kirk had written.
