Kantara Chapter 1 box office collection day 1: The Rishab Shetty starrer mints Rs 60 crore on opening day, beats Chhaava, Saiyaara

Rishab Shetty’s highly anticipated prequel, Kantara Chapter 1, has made a sensational start, crossing ₹65 crore on its opening day. This major pan-India Dusshera release surpassed several big hits, including Rajinikanth’s Coolie, showcasing its immense appeal. Celebrities like Prabhas and Jr NTR have lauded the film, directed by and starring National Award winner Rishab Shetty, for its resounding success.

Rishab Shetty’s prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara is one of the most awaited films of the year. Set for a Dusshera release, Kantara Chapter 1 is not only one of the biggest Kannada films ever but also a major pan-India festive release. As per the latest update, the film has already crossed the Rs 65 crore mark.

Opening day box office figures

According to early estimates in Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 60.00 crore on its first day at the box office. Meanwhile, it managed to mint Rs 19-21 crore approximately in Hindi language.

Beating other major hits

It has already beaten the opening day collections of several big hits this year, including Saiyaara (Rs 22 crore), Sikandar (Rs 26 crore), and Chhaava (Rs 31 crore). The film has also inched closer to the opening day figure of Rajinikanth’s Coolie (Rs 65 crore).

Celebs shower praise

Prabhas took to Instagram and wrote, “#KantaraChapter1 is a brilliant film with outstanding performances from everyone….. The biggest blockbuster of the year. Congratulations to Rishab Shetty, Vijay Kiragandur and Hombale Films!!”Jr NTR tweeted about the film and wrote, “Congratulations to the team of #KantaraChapter1 on scoring a resounding success. @shetty_rishab sir pulled off the unthinkable by excelling both as a mindblowing actor and a brilliant director. My best wishes to the entire cast and crew, along with @hombalefilms, for fearlessly backing Rishab sir’s vision.”

About the film

Backed by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda under the Hombale Films banner, Kantara: Chapter 1 is directed by Rishab Shetty, who also plays the lead role. Rishab had earlier won the National Film Award for Best Actor for Kantara (2022), which also received the award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. The prequel stars Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram in important roles.
