‘Witch Killing People’: PoK Leader Alleges Pakistan Army Committing Atrocities

Shaukat Nawaz Mir, a senior leader of the Awami Action Committee in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), launched a scathing attack on Islamabad and its military, accusing them of brutalising locals and silencing dissent.

He likened the army to “a witch bent on killing people” and alleged that those in power were suppressing ordinary voices while rewarding the elite.

Speaking at a protest gathering, Mir said the region is anything but free.

Citing earlier remarks by Pakistan Army chief Gen Asim Munir, who had called Hindus “kaafir” ahead of the Pahalgam terror attack, Mir charged Pakistan with hypocrisy, saying it blames others for atrocities while committing its own in PoK.

Protests led by the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) have intensified in recent weeks, with demonstrators demanding an end to corruption and military excesses.

The group has submitted a 38-point charter of demands to the government, including the withdrawal of perks for political elites.

In response, the PoK administration has imposed an indefinite lockdown and cut off mobile and internet services.

Security forces have been accused of firing on peaceful protesters, further inflaming anger in the region.

“There is now a systematic attempt to kill people,” Mir alleged, warning that the agitation could escalate if the government continues its crackdown.

The JKJAAC has called on Kashmiris abroad to internationalise the issue and announced plans for a mass march towards Muzaffarabad.

Meanwhile, heavy deployment of Pakistani troops continues across the region in an attempt to curb the unrest.
