A man riding a bicycle in downtown Chicago had a tense verbal exchange with Border Patrol agents, repeatedly taunting them by saying, “I’m not a US citizen,” as they tried to apprehend him. The man skillfully dodged their attempts to catch him. A video of the dramatic chase, which took place on Sunday, quickly went viral on social media.

The footage shows the cyclist repeatedly shouting, “I’m not a US citizen,” while taunting the agents. At one point, the cyclist drops his phone, prompting an agent to call out, “You dropped your phone.” As the man bends down to retrieve it, several agents rush forward, but the cyclist manages to jump back on his bike and pedal away, escaping the officers.

Despite the pursuit, the video does not show any physical contact between the agents and the cyclist. It remains unclear if the man was later detained or faced any charges.

Meanwhile, there has been a noticeable increase in federal law enforcement presence in Chicago. Fox 32 reported that on Sunday, dozens of armed, camouflaged, and masked Border Patrol agents were deployed across some of the city’s busiest tourist areas, including Wacker Drive, Michigan Avenue, Millennium Park, the Riverwalk, and River North.

The federal presence in Chicago comes as part of a broader crackdown on crime and immigration by the Trump administration.

On October 16, President Donald Trump had signed an order sending National Guard troops to Memphis, Tennessee, as part of this initiative. Trump had described the task force as a “replica” of one he sent to Washington, DC, in August.

Critics have labelled the crackdown authoritarian, pointing out that Trump’s efforts so far have focused mainly on cities governed by Democrats. Memphis, a city with a majority Black population, has a Democratic mayor, while the state of Tennessee is led by a Republican governor.
