In a tragic incident, a 27-year-old trapeze artist from Germany died after plummeting to the ground in front of horrified spectators during a circus performance. The woman was identified as Marina B.

Marine died immediately after falling 16 feet to the floor Saturday night in front of almost 100 people during a solo performance at the Paul Busch Circus show in Bautzen, Germany, the New York Post reported.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos after the accident. The audience erupted in screams as some parents rushed to shield their children’s eyes, while others fled the tent in horror.

The accident led to show cancellations, and authorities are investigating whether a health issue contributed to the fall, as per reports. “We can’t believe what’s happened,” a circus employee told Germany’s Bild newspaper.

Ralf Huppertz, chief of Germany’s circus association, believes Marina, of Spain, may have suffered a health problem. “It’s unusual for a well-trained artist like Marina to not survive a fall from that height. Perhaps she got dizzy on the trapeze,” he said.

Police said Marina was not using a safety rope, but she did not have to. She had more than a decade of experience as a trapeze artist and was just recently booked with the Paul Busch Circus for its upcoming tour.

Marina, originally from Mallorca, Spain, was a popular trapeze artist. On her Instagram, just weeks before the tragedy, she posted a photo of herself mid-performance with the caption: “Up here, I work best.”

The Mayor of Bautzen, Karsten Vogt, expressed condolences, saying, “The accident has deeply affected us. On behalf of the city, I extend my sincere sympathy to the relatives and all those affected by this terrible accident.”
