Two days after 17 TTP militants were killed in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in a northwestern district, nine security personnel were killed in an IED blast in South Waziristan district.

According to sources, an attack was carried out on Pakistani security forces in South Waziristan district. Multiple soldiers were also injured in the attack, the sources said. This happened in the Mula Khan Sara area of South Waziristan, they added.

The sources told News18 that the IED attack was on a convoy of security forces vehicles. An exchange of fire continues between forces and militants, though there is no information on which group is involved.

On September 27, Pakistan security forces killed 17 militants linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in a joint operation in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

It was a joint intelligence-based operation by Frontier Corps (FC) and the police, which was conducted in the Karak district after credible information was received about the presence of militants associated with the TTP, Mullah Nazir group.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has sounded an alarm on the crisis in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, saying militants operate freely even as the State has failed to protect its citizens.

The commission warned of the worsening security environment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the merged tribal districts, saying terrorist outfits appear to be operating with impunity in several regions, as reported by The Express Tribune.
