Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday expressed strong confidence that the country will be free from violent Naxalism by next year. He was addressing the ‘Naxal Mukt Bharat’ session when he said that the government is working with a clear vision and strategy to completely eliminate Naxal violence.

“We are confident that by March 31, 2026, violent Naxalism will be eradicated,” he declared, setting a clear timeline for ending the decades-long internal security challenge.

Highlighting the government’s approach under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Shah said national security has always been the top priority. “National security and the country’s safety are the primary concerns of our discussion,” he said.

Shah outlined three critical regions that have been at the centre of the government’s security efforts since 2014. “Since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, he has focused on three key regions: Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast, and the Vampanthi Corridor,” he explained.

The Home Minister said that the government has made significant progress in improving ties and development in the Northeast. “Our government has worked to reduce the distance and improve relations between Delhi and the Northeast,” he added.

Referring to Jammu and Kashmir, Shah recalled the historic step taken in 2019. “Similarly, in 2019, Narendra Modi revoked Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, and since then, the government has worked systematically towards development, security, and building public trust,” he said.

Shah also spoke about the growing trust of the people in democratic processes. He noted that the 2024 general elections saw an unprecedented voter turnout. “Since independence, the highest voter turnout was recorded in the 2024 elections,” he said.
