Karur Stampede Breaking News: Former TN CM O. Panneerselvam Demands CBI Probe | News18

The Karur stampede tragedy that left 39 people dead, including children and women, has now escalated into a major political storm in Tamil Nadu. Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam (OPS) has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the incident, questioning the role of the state government and alleging serious lapses in crowd control and event management. The tragic incident occurred during TVK chief Vijay’s rally in Karur, where more than 50,000 people gathered despite permission for only 10,000. With poor arrangements, heat exhaustion, and a delayed arrival by Vijay, chaos broke out, triggering a deadly surge near the stage. While the Tamil Nadu government has already announced a judicial commission led by Justice Aruna Jagadeesan, OPS insists only a CBI investigation can uncover the truth.News18’s Vivek Narayan and @AmanKayamHai_ bring you the latest political reactions, while @_pallavighosh explains the implications of OPS’s demand. Stay tuned for ground reports, victim voices, and court updates. n18oc_india
