Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif asserted that his country was “defeating cross-border terrorism” when pressed on the issue by news agency ANI while he was entering the United Nations headquarters. In the brief video clip, Shehbaz Sharif can be seen walking into the UN building when a reporter asks him, “When is Pakistan going to end cross-border terrorism?”

Shehbaz Sharif stops midway, turns toward the camera and responds, “We are defeating cross-border terrorism. We are defeating them,” before walking off.

The remark comes as Shehbaz Sharif is in New York for the UN General Assembly, where he also held a meeting with US President Donald Trump at the Oval Office. The talks, attended by Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, were described by Islamabad as “highly significant and security-focused.”

India reacted sharply to the meeting, with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reiterating its consistent position that “there is no role for any third party in matters concerning India and Pakistan.” The ministry said it had “taken note” of the talks, stressing that all outstanding issues between the two countries must be resolved bilaterally.

“India’s consistent position has been clear and well known- there is no role for any third party in matters concerning India and Pakistan. All outstanding issues are to be resolved bilaterally,” the ministry said.

Shehbaz Sharif, during his White House engagement, invited American companies to invest in Pakistan’s agriculture, technology, mining and energy sectors- describing the talks as a sign of “further warming” of US-Pakistan relations.
