‘It’s Time To Stop Now’: Trump Says He Will Not Allow Israel To Annex West Bank

Trump declared he will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank, opposing far-right demands amid rising calls for a two-state solution.

“There’s been enough. It’s time to stop now,” Trump said.

US President Donald Trump on Thursday declared that he will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank, distancing himself from demands by some far-right politicians who want to extend sovereignty over the area.

“I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank. Nope, I will not allow it. It’s not going to happen,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

“There’s been enough. It’s time to stop now,” he added, signaling a shift amid growing global concern over Israel’s aggressive actions.

Trump’s remarks came as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was scheduled to arrive in New York ahead of his address to the United Nations General Assembly on Friday.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu’s office stated the prime minister would respond to Trump’s comments after returning to Israel, news agency Reuters reported.

The issue of annexation has drawn criticism from Arab nations, some of whose leaders met Trump earlier this week at the UN. According to Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, Trump “understands very well” the grave consequences of annexation.

Growing Calls For Two-State Solution

Recent moves by France, Britain, Canada, Australia, and Portugal to recognise a Palestinian state reflect rising urgency to preserve the possibility of a two-state solution—an approach increasingly under threat as Israeli settlements expand deeper into the occupied territory.

One flashpoint is the controversial E1 settlement plan, approved in August, which would divide the West Bank and cut it off from East Jerusalem—land Palestinians envision as part of a future state, the report mentioned.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, a far-right figure in Netanyahu’s coalition government, declared earlier that the idea of a Palestinian state is “being erased from the table.”

Currently, around 700,000 Israeli settlers live among 2.7 million Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem—territories most of the international community considers occupied and whose settlement is illegal under international law, a stance Israel disputes.
