Navratri Day 5 puja vidhi and aarti: On the day of Panchami, devotees honour Goddess Skandamata, a revered form of Goddess Parvati. She is most commonly portrayed as a divine motherly figure seated upon a lotus flower, which is why she is also lovingly referred to as Goddess Padmasana.
In this form, she is depicted riding a majestic lion, symbolising courage and strength, with her son Lord Skanda (Murugan or Kartikeya) resting tenderly in her lap. Lord Skanda, the brother of Lord Ganesha, represents valor and divine leadership. This year, the auspicious worship of Skandamata will be observed on September 26.

Skandamata is generally shown with four hands: in her upper two hands, she gracefully holds lotus flowers, signifying purity and spiritual awakening. With one of her right hands, she cradles baby Murugan, while the other right hand is raised in the Abhaya Mudra, a gesture of reassurance, fearlessness and protection for her devotees.
According to Hindu tradition, when Goddess Parvati assumed the role of a mother by giving birth to Lord Skanda, she came to be known as Skandamata.
Skandamata is venerated as the bestower of salvation, strength, wisdom and prosperity. It is believed that even those who lack formal education or literacy can gain profound knowledge and understanding through her divine grace. Her blessings are said to bring both material wealth and spiritual fulfillment, guiding devotees toward success and enlightenment.
One of the unique aspects of her worship is the dual blessing it provides. In offering prayers to Skandamata, devotees simultaneously worship Lord Skanda, who rests in her lap, thereby receiving the combined benevolence of both mother and son.
Spiritually, Skandamata is closely associated with the heart chakra (Anahata), which represents love, compassion, emotional balance and harmony. By invoking her during Navratri, devotees not only strengthen their spiritual path but also cultivate kindness, inner peace and deep emotional stability in their lives.

॥ Om Devi Skandamatayai Namah॥
Puja Vidhi
To perform the Skandamata Puja, begin by placing a picture or idol of the goddess and purifying it with Gangajal. Devotees should then make offerings such as fresh flowers, a lit Deepam (lamp), sacred water and Prasad (food offering). It is considered auspicious to present a banana or another fruit, along with six cardamoms, to the goddess.
Before starting the ritual, one should take a bath, wear clean clothes and then offer bhog to Skandamata as a mark of devotion and respect.
Aarti lyrics
Jay Teri Ho Skand Mata.
Paanchwa Naam Tumhara Aata.
Sabke Man Ki Janan Hari.
Jag Janani Sabki Mahtari.
Teri Jot Jalata Rahu Main.
Hardam Tujhe Dhyata Rahu Main.
Kai Naamo Se Tujhe Pukara.
Mujhe Ek Hai Tera Sahara.
Kahi Pahado Par Hai Dera.
Kai Shahron Me Tera Basera.
Har Mandir Me Tere Najare.
Gun Gaaye Tere Bhakt Pyare.
Bhakti Apni Mujhe Dila Do.
Shakti Meri Bigadi Bana Do.
Indra Aadi Devta Mil Sare.
Kare Pukar Tumhare Dware.
Dusht Daitya Jab Chadh Kar Aaye.
Tu Hi Khanda Hath Uthaye.
Daason Ko Sada Bachane Aayi.
Bhakt Ki Aas Pujane Aayi.
