At least a dozen people, including women and children, were injured on Tuesday in a bombing attack targeting the Jaffar Express in Balochistan’s Mastung district, the second such blast in the area within 10 hours.

The Quetta-bound train, travelling from Peshawar, was hit in the Spizend area of Mastung in the evening.

The explosion caused six bogies to derail, one of which overturned, injuring several passengers on board. According to Pakistan Railways, around 270 people were travelling on the train at the time of the blast.

Railways officials said five passengers were seriously injured and confirmed that repairs to the damaged track would begin after a security clearance on Wednesday. Train services on this route are expected to remain suspended until then.

Earlier in Tuesday, another explosion had took place near the same stretch of railway. That blast took place just as the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express was preparing to depart from Quetta Railway Station. Meanwhile, no damage was reported in that incident, and the train was allowed to proceed after clearance from security personnel.
