A financial fraud has happened in Chennai, involving the family of actor Suriya’s domestic help. The victim in this case was none other than the ‘Retro’ actor’s police security officer (PSO), Anthony George Prabhu, who was duped of Rs 42 lakh.As reported by India Today, police investigations revealed that the incident was part of a larger Rs 2 crore fraud racket which was operated by the same family.
How the fraud began
Reportedly, according to investigators, the domestic help, Sulochana, and her son lured the officer into investing money with the promise of high returns. To gain his confidence, they returned 30 grams of gold against an initial transfer of Rs 1 lakh. Encouraged by this, Prabhu went on to invest more, transferring a total of Rs 42 lakh between January and February. However, when he started demanding his money back in March, the family disappeared.
Wider racket uncovered
The case took a bigger turn when police discovered that the same family had defrauded multiple victims across Chennai, collectively cheating people out of nearly Rs 2 crore.Reportedly, following a complaint filed in July, an FIR was registered, leading to the arrest of four family members—Balaji, Bhaskar, Sulochana, and Vijayalakshmi. All four, who had been employed as domestic help at Suriya’s residence, are now in judicial custody. Actor Suriya, upon learning about the incident, reportedly terminated their services immediately.
Suriya’s professional front
Meanwhile, on the work front, Suriya was last seen in the action drama film ‘Retro’ which was directed by Karthik Subbaraj. Even though the hype was high, ‘Retro’ failed to impress the audiences. Suriya’s most anticipated epic film ‘Kanguva’ also failed at the box office and had also received mixed reviews from the audiences. Up next, Suriya is all set for his comeback with the action flick ‘Karuppu’. Go to Source
