The 59-year-old man, Ryan Routh, who was accused of attempting to kill Donald Trump on his West Palm Beach golf course two months before clinching his second presidency, was on Tuesday found guilty on all charges against him.

According to CNN, Routh, who represented himself at his federal trial in Fort Pierce, Florida, was facing five charges, including attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer, possessing a firearm and ammunition as a felon, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Meanwhile, the authorities said that Routh created a “sniper’s nest” near the sixth green of Trump International Golf Club, but never fired a shot at Trump.

Nearly two weeks of testimony and hundreds of exhibits culminated with the final witness who pieced together how Routh was allegedly “stalking” Trump and collecting both “physical and electronic evidence,” CNN reported.

The prosecutors said that Routh had purchased a military-grade weapon, tracked Trump’s movements and used a dozen burner phones as part of a plot to kill Trump that was motivated by political grievances.

After deliberating for about three hours, the jurors announced their verdict.

Following the verdict, Trump in a post on Truth Social said: “Congratulations to Attorney General Pam Bondi, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, and the entire DOJ team on the conviction, in Florida, of the person who attempted an assassination on my life.”

“The trial was meticulously handled, and I would like to thank the Judge and Jury for their time, professionalism, and patience. This was an evil man with an evil intention, and they caught him. I would also like to thank the Secret Service, Department of Florida Law Enforcement, and the wonderful person who spotted him running from the site of the crime, and acted by following him, and getting all information on car type and license plate to the Sheriff’s Office, IMMEDIATELY, which led to his arrest and conviction. What incredible instinct and foresight this person had — A very big moment for JUSTICE IN AMERICA!” he added.

Meanwhile, Routh likely tried to stab himself in the neck with a pen after the verdict was read, a person in the courtroom told CNN. Authorities stopped him from doing so. His daughter also had an emotional outburst in the courtroom after the verdict was read.

Routh’s attempt to kill Trump on September 15, 2024, came nine weeks after then presidential candidate narrowly survived a previous attempted assassination at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. In the earlier case, 20-year-old Thomas Crooks fired eight shots at Trump, with one bullet grazing his ear, before being killed by Secret Service counter-snipers, The Guardian reported.
