Texas Republican leader and US Senate candidate Alexander Duncan stirred controversy after opposing the installation of a 90-foot statue of Lord Hanuman, known as the Statue of Union, in Sugar Land, Texas.

Duncan argued that the structure was inappropriate in what he described as a “Christian nation.”

“Why are we allowing a false statue of a false Hindu God here in Texas? We are a CHRISTIAN nation,” Duncan wrote on X, sharing a video of the statue located at Shri Ashtalakshmi Temple in Sugar Land.

Citing verses from the Bible, Duncan doubled down on his opposition, quoting Exodus 20:3-4 and Romans 1:25 to argue against idol worship.

His remarks quickly drew sharp criticism, with the Hindu American Foundation (HAF) condemning them as “anti-Hindu and inflammatory.”

The group has also filed a formal complaint with the Texas Republican Party, urging disciplinary action against Duncan.

Who Is Alexander Duncan?

Duncan, a Republican candidate for the US Senate from Texas, is a former police officer with 13 years of service.

According to his campaign website, he presents himself as a defender of conservative values and constitutional freedoms.

A devout Christian, Duncan often shares biblical verses on his social media accounts. His website notes that he “surrendered to God” and rebuilt his life around faith.

Originally from California, Duncan moved to Texas with his family, claiming the Golden State’s “radical left policies” made it unfit to raise children.

He has since branded Texas as a bastion of “liberty, faith, and constitutional values.”

Positioning himself as a hardline conservative, Duncan’s campaign platform includes securing the US-Mexico border, ending what he calls “endless foreign wars,” defending gun rights without compromise, and restoring American energy independence.
