'A historic step': Uttarakhand CM Dhami hails next-gen GST reforms

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami

DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami hailed the next-generation GST reforms, which came into effect from Monday, calling these reforms a historic milestone set to bring prosperity, growth, and opportunities for all citizens under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.In a post on X, CM Dhami wrote, “Respected Prime Minister Ji, undoubtedly, the Next Generation GST Reforms implemented under your able leadership mark a historic step that will bring prosperity, growth, and opportunities into the lives of the people of our nation”.CM Dhami added, “On the auspicious occasion of Navratri, this reform holds even greater significance. This initiative will ensure inclusive development for our middle class and small business owners, and will enhance the quality of life for all citizens”. Earlier on Monday, CM Dhami attended the ‘GST Bachat Utsav’ (‘GST Savings Festival’) organised in the Premnagar area in Dehradun. The event was aimed at spreading awareness about the reduction in GST rates across the country and informing people about its direct benefits.CM Dhami visited the local market in Premnagar, where he interacted with traders, sought feedback on the new GST slabs, and urged them to educate the public about the reduced GST rates. He personally visited various establishments to take feedback from shopkeepers and encouraged traders to prioritise indigenous products. He emphasised that by giving preference to local goods, people can strengthen both Indian citizens and the national economy.Appealing to the public, CM Dhami urged people to buy more and more indigenous and local products. He said that “promoting local goods will boost cottage industries and encourage small businesses, thereby strengthening both the state and the nation’s economy.”He further stated that initiatives like the ‘GST Savings Festival’ provide an opportunity for direct dialogue with the people, allowing them to experience firsthand the benefits of government policies.Earlier this month, the GST Council brought the GST reforms that slashed the 12 and 28 per cent slabs. The decision was announced by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on September 3, after she chaired the GST council meeting.Additionally, there is also a 40 per cent slab for luxury and sin goods, including tobacco and pan masala, cigarettes, bidis, and aerated sugary beverages and on luxury vehicles, high-end motorcycles above 350cc, yachts, and helicopters.
