Zubeen Garg demise: Second post-mortem in Guwahati; CM Himanta Biswa Sarma says ‘People demanded another autopsy’

Legendary singer Zubeen Garg’s second post-mortem was completed at the Guwahati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) on Tuesday (September 23) in the presence of AIIMS doctors.As reported by ANI, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Divya Pate confirmed the procedure, following widespread public demand for another autopsy in Assam despite one already having been conducted in Singapore.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said to the media, “People have demanded a post-mortem of Zubeen Garg’s body in Assam as well. While the post-mortem was done in Singapore, since this morning, people have been demanding that another post-mortem be conducted here in Assam. Pabitra Margherita (Union MoS) discussed this with Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg.”

The Chief Minister had earlier visited Kamarkuchi village, Sonapur, where the cremation will be held with full state honours. “Ahead of the final goodbye to Zubeen, I inspected the cremation site and took stock of the preparations,” he wrote on X.

Fans flock to pay their respects

Meanwhile, thousands of grieving fans gathered at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex to pay their last respects before the singer’s mortal remains were moved to Kamarkuchi for cremation.Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and wrote, “Shocked by the sudden demise of popular singer Zubeen Garg. He will be remembered for his rich contribution to music. His renditions were very popular among people across all walks of life. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.” Rahul Gandhi Tweeted, “The passing of Zubeen Garg is a terrible tragedy. His voice defined a generation, and his talent was truly unmatched. He overcame personal tragedies to reshape the landscape of Assamese music. His perseverance and courage have left an enduring mark. He will live on in our hearts and minds forever.” Zubeen Garg, who tragically passed away in Singapore due to drowning, will be laid to rest on Tuesday on a 10-bigha plot beside the National Highway.
