Rajat Bedi says he was sidelined in Koi Mil Gaya promotions

Rajat Bedi says he was sidelined and left out of publicity during Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta starrer 'Koi Mil Gaya'

Rajat Bedi is back on screen after many years and the kind of popularity he’s enjoying surely makes one feel this is a second chapter in his career. He is seen in Aryan Khan’s directorial debut ‘The Ba**ds of Bollywood’ and getting a lot of love for his role. The actor has recently opened up on being sidelined in his earlier movies many a times. For example, he was seen in ‘Koi Mil Gaya’. TAt the Khajuraho International Film Festival (KIFF), Rajat opened up about the highs and lows of his life both in India and abroad. “I have been used and abused and left behind specially in my work. I have faced the consequences of trusting people. It happened in Canada. I was a real estate developer and an actor. I had partners who did the numbers on me. I faced bad consequences, but it was great also for me because it made me move back to India,” he shared. But even back home, he recalls feeling overshadowed. “Koi Mil Gaya became this blockbuster film, and it was publicised with Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta and Rakesh Roshan. I was left out in the publicity, but till today, people recognise me, love me for that role. I can’t take that away. It was wonderful to work with Rakesh ji. He is one of the best directors I have worked with.”Today, OTT has given Rajat a second wind. “It’s great blessing for actors because there is so much work happening on the OTT platform and there is an opportunity for technicians and actors to display their work,” he said, adding, “You will actually see me in Bollywood after 16 years. This is like daddy of all Bollywood. This is a banger. Both of them, they are colossally big. I was fortunate because I was specially called for these projects because of my past work in films.”The actor also spoke about continuing his family’s legacy. “I am the third generation of a family, and the good news is that the fourth generation is getting ready. My son is getting ready to become an actor,” he revealed with pride. When asked about his son’s debut, he smiled and said, “Very soon. He is 22 years old. He is far more good-looking than me.”Rajat is the son of filmmaker Narendra Bedi, known for Jawani Diwani, Bandhan, Maha Chor and Benaam. His grandfather, writer Rajinder Singh Bedi, penned classics like Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Abhimaan, Anupama and Satyakam. Carrying the creative torch forward, Rajat’s elder sister has also made her mark, wrote Agneepath (2012) for Karan Johar and is now scripting Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film starring Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
