‘Sophie, not Nicholas’: Justice Brett Kavanaugh attacker ‘adopts’ female identity

‘Sophie’: Justice Brett Kavanaugh attacker 'adopts' female identity; 'Nicholas' remains legal name

The man who pleaded guilty to attempting to kill US Supreme Court’s Justice Brett Kavanaugh in 2022 is now identifying with a female name and pronouns, according to a recent court filing. Nicholas Roske, who is scheduled to be sentenced on October 3, is using the name “Sophie” and the title “Ms.” for the first time in the three-year-old case, Fox News reported. A footnote in the filing noted that “Nicholas” remains Roske’s legal name, but added: “Out of respect for Ms. Roske, the balance of this pleading and counsel’s in-court argument will refer to her as Sophie and use female pronouns.”It remains unclear whether Roske is undergoing any gender-related treatments. A Bureau of Prisons (BOP) spokesperson said the agency cannot disclose such information: “For privacy, safety, and security reasons, the BOP does not comment on the conditions of confinement for any incarcerated individual, including health information status or treatments.”The development comes as the Department of Justice has been internally reviewing concerns about firearm access among transgender individuals. In the very recent case of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, his alleged assassin, Tyler Robinson, was found to have been in a relationship with a transgender person. Authorities believe Robinson was driven by the perception that Kirk spread “hate.” The investigation is still ongoing.Roske was arrested on June 8, 2022, after travelling to Kavanaugh’s home armed with a pistol, ammunition, a knife, a crowbar, and tactical gear. He surrendered after speaking with his sister and noticing US marshals outside the justice’s residence. Prosecutors are seeking a 30-year prison sentence.
