Dadasaheb Phalke Award: Mohanlal conferred with honour for outstanding contribution to Indian cinema

The Government of India on Saturday announced that veteran actor, director, and producer Mohanlal will be conferred with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award.The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting made the announcement on Saturday evening, noting that the decision was made on the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee. The veteran actor is being recognised and honoured for his contribution to Indian cinema.The statement read, “The Government of India is pleased to announce that Shri Mohanlal will be conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Mohanlal’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! The legendary actor, director, and producer is being honoured for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema. His unmatched talent, versatility, and relentless hard work have set a golden standard in Indian film history.” The award will be presented at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony on September 23, 2025.Last year, actor Mithun Chakraborty was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award for the year 2022.Mohanlal has also been the recipient of several National Film Awards over the years. He won the Best Actor Award for Bharatham, a Special Mention for Kireedam, and Special Jury Awards for Janatha Garage, Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, and Pulimurugan. As a producer, he won the Best Feature Film Award for Vanaprastham.In addition to his cinematic achievements, the Government of India has honoured him with two of the nation’s highest civilian awards, the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan which he won in 2019.Having started his film journey at an early age, Mohanlal has worked in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi films. With a career spanning over four decades, Mohanlal was previously honoured with Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2019.On the work front, the actor will be next seen in Nanda Kishore’s ‘Vrusshabha’.
