When Anushka opened up about gender disparity

When Anushka Sharma opened up about gender disparity in movie business

Anushka Sharma spoke about gender disparity in Bollywood. She highlighted the different standards for male and female actors. She pointed out the industry’s focus on women’s youth and desirability. Sharma also shared her experience as a producer. She faced financial discrimination while producing NH10. She had to produce to make the film within budget.

It has been a long time since Anushka Sharma was last seen in a film, She was last seen in Zero with Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif. She was supposed to come back to movie with Chakda Express- biopic on Indian Woman fast bowler Jhulan Goswami. . But for now the film has been stuck. Being an actor- producer, Anushka has been very candid about the gender disparity that has been part of the business. In an interview that she gave to Film Companion is 2015 she pointed out that longevity for actors and actresses are starkly different. She said, “ Men can work as long as they want to. Even if they’ve aged, it’s fine. They’re still heroes and they’re still superheroes and they’re still amazing and cool and all of that, which is fine. And I have no problem with that. But why is it that women are only okay big till they are young? They’re only desirable.”

She further broke down the problem of how desirability is framed in the industry, saying, “So think about it. Desirable means what? There’s a sexual connotation attached to this. So we’re actually looking at women in that way in films. And we’re looking at women in that way in films because we have only shown mostly that to people in films.”Even as a producer she had to face disparity, she began her production journey with NH10 , she said “Even when actors produce films, they get a huge amount of money but with actresses it’s really not that. We had to literally say I’ll produce the film so that the film can be made on that much of a budget. Otherwise this film cannot be made. You feel that discrimination.”
