Kusha Kapila opens up about drastic weight loss journey

Kusha Kapila opens up about drastic weight loss journey, says her transformation was driven by acne and mental health struggles

Actress-content creator Kusha Kapila recently shared the real reason behind her dramatic weight loss, revealing that it had little to do with appearance. Speaking to Soha Ali Khan on her podcast, Kusha said her transformation was prompted by severe acne linked to PCOD, which was affecting not only her physical health but also her mental well-being.

‘My face was full of acne, not weight loss-driven at all’

When Soha asked Kusha if her weight loss came through medication or lifestyle changes, Kusha explained that her primary struggle was with painful acne.“My biggest problem was that I have a camera-facing job and my face was full of acne. At 28-29, my entire face was full of acne and I couldn’t understand anything. I was applying topical creams and it was not helping me in any manner,” she recalled. She added that her motivation was never appearance-based. “I have made content in every shape and people have accepted me. But when that acne became so painful and it was bleeding, I could not sleep on any side of my face. Your face is your real estate, especially if you are in this business.”

Lifestyle changes over quick fixes

Kusha revealed that her doctors advised her to focus on nutrition and exercise instead of shortcuts. “First of all, I went to a doctor, you know, instead of just seeing videos online. He told me I will have to undergo major lifestyle changes because I have PCOD,” she said. She cut out junk and sugar from her diet, corrected her protein intake, and incorporated consistent exercise into her routine. “The advice everyone gave me, whoever I met, the doctors, they said that you will have to exercise. Nothing responds to this better. So, I tied exercise to my life in such a way that I am doing this for my mental health, not for my weight.”

On medication and mental health

While doctors suggested isotretinoin for her skin condition, Kusha chose to avoid it out of concern for her mental health. “I was on medicine, although the doctors told me to take isotretinoin. I never went on it because apparently, in some cases, your mental health can deteriorate. I am not against people taking medicine… some drugs are actually very good for you. But with ISO, I was not very sure.”Kusha concluded that what began as an effort to heal her skin eventually became a journey toward better mental health — with weight loss being just a by-product.
