Marissa Laimou, a 28-year-old Greek heiress from one of Greece’s prominent shipping families, was found dead in her London apartment- just a day after doctors treated her for what they diagnosed as an insect bite. Her family alleged that the insect bite triggered a sudden decline that led to her death, accusing doctors of negligence in failing to admit her to hospital despite her symptoms.

According to relatives, Marissa Laimou was suffering from fever, dizziness and itching before she sought medical attention. Her mother, Bessie Laimou, said that hospital staff discharged her with antibiotics, saying her condition was not severe enough to require admission.
The family claims the official diagnosis cited a “toxic effect of venom” caused by an “animal or insect bite.” A relative told the Daily Mail, “No doctor examined Marissa. Only nurses saw her, conducted the blood tests and passed the results to the doctor, who then decided she could be discharged.”
Her mother said, “She was bitten by an insect, she was itchy, she went to the doctor, she took antibiotics, she ate, she slept and she never woke up. My daughter was saved from cancer. My little child.”
The hospital has reportedly launched an internal investigation while a post-mortem examination is expected in the coming days to determine the exact cause of death.
