Abhinav Kashyap reveals Salman Khan was insecure about Sonu Sood

In an interview with Bollywood Thikana, Abhinav Kashyap shared that he suggested Sonu Sood’s name for the role of the antagonist when he started discussing the film with Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan, and Salman Khan.He stated that Sonu was his suggestion, as they were old friends. The director also revealed that he helped him secure the role in Mani Ratnam’s ‘Yuva’. While stating that he always thought that Sonu looked like a young Amitabh Bachchan, he added, “For the villain, I wanted someone who looked stronger than Salman. I knew Sonu had a good physique. But Salman wasn’t very keen. He was very insecure because Sonu had a good body.”Abhinav went on to reveal that Katrina Kaif was the one who convinced Salman to get Sood on board. He said, “Katrina helped convince him. She was around Salman a lot in those days, and she endorsed the idea of Sonu being cast.”

Randeep Hooda was to play lead in ‘Dabangg’ but Sohail Khan scrapped the idea

Kashyap also recalled Arbaaz asking him to narrate the story to Sohail. When the director did what was asked, Sohail questioned him about who he had in mind for the lead role, to which he suggested Randeep Hooda’s name. The filmmaker then recalled Sohail saying, “No, yaar, Randeep Hooda ka kya market hai, kaun paise lagayega, koi bada hero soch (Randeep Hooda doesn’t have a market, and hence, no one would invest in the movie; think about someone big).”Initially, he suggested Sanjay Dutt and Sunny Deol’s names, and Salman Khan’s as well. He recalled, “Salman also has a good body if he can carry a tough role, because Salman had a ‘chichora image’; uski image mavali wali thi (he had a rowdy image).”The Khan brothers quickly agreed on Salman leading the film and stated if the superstar liked the script, they would produce the film.
