US White House Trade Advisor Peter Navarro criticised India on Monday for its ties with Russia and China, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi “did not feel comfortable” standing with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the SCO Summit in Tianjin.
His remarks came during an interview with CNBC, where he also said that India was coming to the negotiating table.
“Watching (PM) Modi on a stage with China, which has been its long-time existential threat, and Putin, that was an interesting stretch. I don’t think he felt comfortable doing it,” Navarro said.
During the interview, Navarro also claimed that India was coming to the negotiating table.
“India is coming to the table. Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent out a very conciliatory, nice, constructive tweet, and President Trump responded to that. We’ll see how this works,” he said.
