Five security personnel, including a captain-rank officer, were killed in an attack on a Pakistani military vehicle in Balochistan’s Kech district. Initial reports said the attack was conducted using IED devices, sources said.

According to Pakistani government sources, the deceased officer was identified as Captain Waqar. The incident took place when the security personnel convoy was patrolling in the area, the sources said.

The sources said Kech is a stronghold of Baloch separatists and Pakistan military has lost more than 150 security personnel in attacks in this area. The attack came as the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) on Monday released a video online of coordinated attacks in Tump and Zamuran, both located in Kech district.

The BLA’s official media wing, Hakkal, released video footage purportedly showing multiple IED attacks targeting Pakistani military forces in these regions. It claimed that the explosions killed nine Pakistani soldiers and injured three others.

Figures of attacks provided by the BLA differ from government data. In a report released by Hakkal Media in July, the BLA claimed to have conducted 284 armed attacks in the first half of 2025 resulting in the deaths of more than 668 Pakistani military personnel. This was during a phase of intensified conflict that included fidayeen assaults, the capture of towns, and the hijacking of the Jaffar Express train, reported The Balochistan Post.

The report said the number of attacks carried out by the BLA in just the first six months of 2025 has nearly matched the group’s total operations for the entire previous year. In 2024, it had claimed responsibility for 302 attacks, which reportedly led to over 580 deaths and more than 370 injuries.

The BLA is an armed separatist group in Balochistan that seeks independence from Pakistan. It aims to end what it calls the “occupation” of Balochistan by Pakistani forces through armed insurgency, including attacks on military targets, intelligence operatives, and state-backed militias. Its goal is to establish an independent Baloch state and gain control over the region’s resources and political autonomy.
