Mohini: ‘I attempted suicide not once, but seven times’

Mohini opens up about battling depression, the dark phase she faced after marriage: ‘I attempted suicide not once, but seven times’

Actress Mohini, who made her debut as a heroine in Eeramana Rojave (1991) directed by Kothanda Ramaiah, went on to act in several South Indian films across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. At the peak of her career, she tied the knot with Bharath in 1999 and later settled in the United States. The couple is blessed with two sons.In a recent interview with Aval Vikatan, Mohini spoke candidly about the dark phase she faced after marriage. “After my marriage, I was happily living with my husband and children. But at one stage, I realised I was falling into some kind of depression,” she recalled.

‘I attempted suicide not once, but seven times’

The actress said that nothing had gone wrong in her life, yet she struggled with overwhelming depression. “There was nothing wrong happening in my life, yet I suffered from depression. At one point, I even attempted suicide — not once, but seven times,” she revealed.Mohini also shared an incident when she met an astrologer during that phase. “During that period, I met an astrologer who told me that someone had performed black magic on me. At first, I laughed it off. But then I wondered why I had gone to the extent of attempting suicide,” she said.

‘My Jesus gave me strength’

The actress said that the turning point came when she began to fight back with faith. “It was only after that realisation that I began to make efforts to come out of it. What truly gave me strength was my Jesus,” she concluded.
