Breaking: Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki Likely To Become Nepal’s Interim Prime Minister, Swearing-In Expected Soon

Political uncertainty in Nepal has taken a dramatic turn with reports suggesting that former Supreme Court Chief Justice Sushila Karki may be sworn in as the country’s interim Prime Minister. According to sources, late-night discussions at the Rashtrapati Bhavan between President Ramchandra Paudel and the Speaker of the House of Representatives led to a consensus in favor of Karki’s appointment. The meeting was also attended by Karki herself, where several key issues were discussed, eventually paving the way for her leadership.President Paudel had earlier held consultations with political party leaders to build consensus for the formation of a new government. With political negotiations at a stalemate, the agreement to hand over the command to Karki is seen as a significant move to stabilize governance. Sources indicate that her swearing-in ceremony could take place as early as today.Sushila Karki holds a remarkable legacy as the first woman Chief Justice of Nepal’s Supreme Court, serving from 2016 to 2017. She studied law at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, and began her legal career in 1979 before being appointed as an ad-hoc judge in 2009. Her appointment as interim Prime Minister would mark another historic milestone in Nepal’s political journey.
