A decade-old social media post by Charlie Kirk, the late conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), has resurfaced and gone viral in the wake of his recent assassination. The post, made on June 23, 2014, is drawing attention for its uncanny reference to the manner of his death.

In the now widely shared tweet, Kirk wrote, “Did I just get shot by an AR-15? Feels like it.” The chilling post is being circulated online following Kirk’s fatal shooting on September 10, 2025, during a stop on his “American Comeback Tour” at Utah Valley University.

Kirk, 31, was shot in the neck shortly after the event began and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, according to CNN. The incident has sparked widespread speculation and intense investigation.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact weapon used in the attack. However, the AR-15, a semi-automatic rifle with an estimated 25 million units in civilian hands in the US, has long been associated with high-profile shootings. Its mention in Kirk’s 2014 tweet has added a surreal layer to the tragedy.

According to a New York Times report, a single shot was fired from a rooftop approximately 100 yards away from where Kirk was speaking. Law enforcement officials said they recovered a high-powered, bolt-action rifle, specifically an older-model Mauser rifle, believed to be the weapon used. Three officials, speaking anonymously, confirmed this detail. However, details of the bullet that struck Kirk has not yet been publicly identified.

Surveillance footage shows an unidentified person fleeing from the rooftop after the shot was fired. Investigators have not determined the shooter’s exact position, whether standing, kneeling, or prone, at the time of the shot. However, forensic evidence recovered from the scene includes a palm imprint, a forearm impression, and a footwear mark.

Two individuals were detained for questioning and later released. A manhunt remains ongoing.

The range of the shot, approximately 100 yards, is considered relatively short for rifles firing standard rounds such as a 5.56-millimeter from an AR-15 or a .308 used in hunting rifles. The distance and circumstances have drawn comparisons to last year’s attempted assassination of President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.
